Poverty Eradication

Building Sustainable Livelihoods for Resilient Communities

At Amuria Development Association (AMDA), poverty eradication is at the heart of our mission. We work hand-in-hand with communities in Amuria and surrounding areas to break the cycle of poverty by empowering individuals, strengthening livelihoods, and promoting sustainable development rooted in local solutions.

We believe that poverty is not just a lack of income, but a lack of opportunity, skills, access to resources, and voice. Our poverty eradication programs are designed to address these root causes and enable communities to build dignified, self-reliant futures.

Our Approach

AMDA adopts a community-rooted and participatory approach, ensuring that local people are active agents of change rather than passive beneficiaries. We focus on:

  • Empowering households with practical skills and knowledge

  • Strengthening local economic activities

  • Promoting inclusion of women, youth, and vulnerable groups

  • Encouraging self-reliance and long-term sustainability

Key Poverty Eradication Interventions

1. Livelihoods and Income Generation

We support communities to improve household incomes through:

  • Skills training in agriculture, livestock rearing, and small enterprises

  • Support to Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs)

  • Promotion of small-scale businesses and entrepreneurship

  • Value addition and market linkages for local products

2. Agricultural Development and Food Security

Agriculture is a major source of livelihood in Amuria. AMDA works to:

  • Promote climate-smart and sustainable farming practices

  • Improve access to quality seeds and farming tools

  • Strengthen farmer groups and cooperatives

  • Enhance household food security and nutrition

3. Women and Youth Economic Empowerment

Women and youth are disproportionately affected by poverty. We focus on:

  • Economic empowerment of women through savings groups and skills training

  • Youth livelihood programs, vocational skills, and mentorship

  • Promoting leadership, decision-making, and financial literacy

4. Social Protection and Support for Vulnerable Households

We support the most vulnerable community members, including:

  • Orphans and vulnerable children

  • Elderly persons and persons with disabilities

  • Households affected by shocks such as climate change and illness

Impact at Community Level

Through our poverty eradication programs, AMDA has contributed to:

  • Increased household incomes and savings

  • Improved food security and nutrition

  • Enhanced resilience to economic and climate-related shocks

  • Greater participation of women and youth in local economies

  • Stronger, more cohesive community structures

Our Commitment

AMDA is committed to sustainable, inclusive development that leaves no one behind. By working closely with communities, local leaders, and partners, we ensure that our poverty eradication efforts are locally owned, culturally appropriate, and impactful over the long term.
